Resort Lowdown

Avoriaz at an altitude of 1800 meters stands high in the Rhone Alps, The unique architecture teamed with the ski in-ski out nature and the proximity to Geneva airport (only 1hr 45mins) makes it one of the most popular winter holiday destinations.

The pedestrianised town offers a true winter experience as sleighs, sleds and skiers make their way down the piste that runs directly through the buzzing town centre.

Positioned right in the centre of the Portes Du Soleil area you will never tire of exploring the vast expanse of pistes on offer.

The SKI Area

Avoriaz is in the centre of the “Portes Du Soleil” ski area, one of the biggest in the world boasting  over 600km of skiable piste between altitudes of 900m and 2400m, supplied by over 170 lifts.

The area is split between France and Switzerland and sees some of the highest snowfall rates in the Alps, complete with state of the art snow making facilities to ensure even lower pistes remain in great condition.

Families and beginners may enjoy the  Avoriaz pass which still offers a great variety of skiing but sticks to the local area and is a little cheaper.

When To Go To Avoriaz?

January is an Off Peak Weekers haven, often with lots of snow and almost no queuing it is a great month to get the most bang for your buck.

Alternatively late March and April can provide incredible conditions with lots of sunshine and a chilled out vibe

The Town

Avoriaz in a pedestrian town allowing cars to be replaced with snowsports users and horse drawn sleighs, it is a truly unique concept and is perfect for families who look to avoid some other disconnected resorts where public transport may be required, Avoriaz claims that no door is more than a 500m walk from the centre of town.

The town is packed with Lively bars, traditional restaurants and every ammentie a holiday maker could want.

OPW recommends taking a day off the slopes to relax in Aquariaz, the aquatic paradise in the centre of town, equipped with childrens slides, a swimming pool, jacuzzis and a sauna amongst other facilities.

What Happens in Avoriaz?

Avoriaz plays host to many concerts from internationally known artists and is well known for its large open air festivals such as SnowBoxx and Rock Des Pistes.


Avoriaz aims to caters for all its visitors and has many activities both on and off piste.

For those with young children the Avorizou nursery cares for ages 6 months to 5 years entertaining them with education activities and meals whilst the adults are out enjoying the slopes.

There are a bars and restaurants serving food from all over the world but visitors must try the local cuisines such as fondue and raclette.
