  • How do you say Val Thorens?

    Val Tour-En

Resort Lowdown

Val Thorens, the highest resort in Europe is well renowned for its long winter season, incredible snow conditions and truly unbeatable panoramic views. At 2300m above sea level the pretty resort gives a real Alpine feel and its snow covered roofs along with sunny terraces and ski in, ski out accommodation create the perfect Ski holiday experience.

The resort connects with other major resorts including Courchevel, Meribel and Les Menuires to make the Trois (three) Valleys Ski Resort - the largest ski area in the world, boasting 600km of skiable terrain over 183 lifts between altitudes of 600m and 3230m.

  • From November to May the quaint resort of Val Thorens charms all that visit with perfect snow conditions, spectacular views and a friendly atmosphere

The SKI Area

Skiers and Boarders will never tire of exploring the 600km of pistes the Three Valleys has to offer

The Terrain is best suited to intermediate riders with 75% of pistes being blue and red but there are still plenty of nerve racking blacks and mellow greens in almost all corners of the vast ski area.

Val Thorens has beginner slopes right in the centre of town with a free magic carpet lift system that is perfect for those finding their feet that don’t want to fork out on the whole week lift pass.

Those looking not to venture too far from town can make use of the Val Thorens only pass which is cheaper and still has heaps of great varied terrain, more than enough for a intermediate rider looking to perfect their skills

The height of VT means that the temperature remains very low making for amazing conditions for the whole season.

When Does Val Thorens Open?

Val Thorens opens its doors and lifts from the 17th November 2018 until the 5th of May 2019, that is a thigh burning 152 rideable days!! (if our math is correct)

When To Go To Val Thorens?

Off Peak Week recommends getting out there in December to enjoy an early season start and pistes all to yourself, if not January and April also supply unbelievable conditions with great off peak accomodation deals and minimal queuing for lifts.

Must Do Runs at Val Thorens

The Plein Sud is the perfect way to finish the day as the world famous Apres Bar the Folie Douce is conveniently half way down. Luckily the blue piste is not too testing and can be piloted (with care) after a few glasses of Champagne and some table top dancing.

The Town

The pretty town of Val Thorens was created 50 years ago with a pioneering vision of creating a ski resort that remained harmonious with its spectacular natural surroundings.

Although smaller than some of the neighbouring Three Valley towns, it still manages to cater for all with a great range of amenities, services and shopping including a fantastic sports centre complete with wellness centre, perfect for resting those weary legs and even getting some beauty treatments before hitting the wide choice of restaurants, bars and nightclubs.

The craziest of visitors can test their bravery on the highest zip line in Europe, recently updated to fit 2 people the ride is 1300m long at speeds of up to 105 km/ph and at points is 250m above the ground!

What happens in Val Thorens?

There is so much packed in to this beautiful town that boredom is a world that is seldom if ever used.

We recommend checking out the local produce markets on Tuesdays and Thursdays with lots of hand crafted gifts, art and of course cheese! (The Thomme De Savoie is amazing).

Other large events such as international freestyle and racing competitions are also held in the surrounding area along with the highest Jazz festival in the world (April)
